Jack and the BeansTalk, 2019
Jack and the BeansTalk is a traditional Pantomime. With any good Panto, there will be lots of laughs and guffaws and Jack will do his best to navigate his journey with a villain who will make things miserable, a garden fairy will do her best, and a best friend – his cow, Daisy, putting her neck on the line to help him out. But what of the chicken that lays the golden eggs? And where has Jill disappeared to? Who is the evil villain really working for? Will the giant come crashing down? How do beans talk? How can we have a Happy Ending?
“We’re already looking forward to the next installment of this new tradition.” – Carly Maga, The Toronto Star
“We boo the villain, cheer the heroes, marvel at the costume changes of the Dame and laugh without inhibition. A perfect way of ending a year full of theatre-going.” – Lynn Slotkin, The Slotkin Letter
“One of the great things that the Torrent pantos emphasize is that the children’s views and reactions are treated by the onstage adults as being just as important, if not more important, than those of the adults. This reversal of everyday roles helps empower children besides teaching them that the theatre is a special place where anything can happen.” – Christopher Hoile, Stage Door
